FARAHABAD SPORTS COMPLEX

In the summer of 1966 the physical education organization of Iran commissioned me to design and oversee a soccer stadium as part of a larger athletic complex. This complex was located on the east side of Tehran called Farahabad.

1) Stadium Capacity 30,000 seats and an area that can hold 12,000 standing. These numbers were chosen with the following considerations in mind: 1-a) everyday use of the facilities for soccer 1-b) in order to keep expenses down for the standard necessary services, such as restrooms, etc… 1-c) the ability to make use of the stadium for big events and competitions aside from soccer matches.

A Structure meant to house large public participation requires a strong and clear concept. With this in mind, concluded the following theory: an architectural structure or a structural architecture. These two concepts existed simultaneously as a decision that took into consideration the functional aspects as well as other important factors.

A Novel That Defined An Author

When I signed a contract to scope the development of a stadium located in Farahabad, east of Tehran, the situation in the world of construction was such that one couldn’t imagine that a structure consisting of cables would be able to span large distances. Since at that time personal Computers did not exist, we were limited programs that only had two-dimensional capabilities limited to simple structures. Such programs were only available at large companies or universities. Therefore in order to calculate a 3-Dimensional structure, one would have to construct complex models in specific laboratories.
